Victoria participated in the launch of the latest inquiry for the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Diabetes last week in her capacity as Vice Chair of the APPG.
The Group will be investigating how to improve standards nationally and reduce variations between regions in diabetes care.
Victoria said,
“The patient experience must be at the heart of diabetes care.
During the launch, we heard from people who live with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes about their experiences of care from diagnosis onwards.
While there were some examples of excellent care, it is clear that more needs to be done to improve the diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. For example, GPs, nurses and specialists must manage the diagnosis of this life-long, chronic condition sensitively, particularly when the patients are children and young people.
I look forward to sharing the results of this enquiry and its recommendations in the coming months”
