"Coastal Communities need care and concern now!"
So declared Victoria Atkins, Conservative Candidate for Louth & Horncastle, after meeting Parish representatives from Chapel St Leonards,Anderby, Manby, Orby and Willoughby during visits to Chapel St Leonards and Anderby with County Councillor Colin Davie.
“I know from my childhood in Blackpool that holiday towns get forgotten out-of-season and residents’ needs and problems are put off until next spring” she commented. “Health services and transport links need attention. We just need to care that little bit more for local people.”
The Tory Candidate said that she is determined to focus more attention on the coastal areas of Louth & Horncastle, such as Mablethorpe, Sutton-on-Sea and Chapel St Leonards, and to ensure that Government understands the difficulties more clearly. These include extra demands on local doctors, increased litter and traffic congestion.
Victoria welcomed the appointment of a Minister for Coastal Communities as a step in the right direction, but there is more yet to do. “Seaside resorts are hugely important to many people for rest and recreation – and tourism is vital for the local economy. But they can also be havens for deprivation and poverty, and be lonely places for the elderly and infirm” she continued “I do not want that here in Louth & Horncastle and I will take the campaign to prevent it to the highest levels of Government.”
“Populist prejudice achieves nothing – it is action and resources that are required.”
