I met Radioactive Waste Management (RWM) recently to discuss some of the concerns of constituents. I again highlighted my own opposition to the possibility of nuclear waste being dumped on the Lincolnshire coast.
We particularly focused on the property market as this is a matter I have raised regularly on behalf of constituents. RWM confirmed that if the Working Group were to decide to progress to the next stage a scheme would be implemented to address the impact of the GDF proposals on house prices. From my correspondence RWM recognised, however, that there is a very real need to support residents before this and confirmed they are considering launching an interim scheme in the summer of 2022. I expressed concern about the length of time this would take and told RWM that I hoped that any scheme put in place would be retrospective, compensating people who have already been affected. I will be seeking further information about this scheme as it progresses.
For those with house sales being affected now by this proposal, RWM has also agreed to consider individual cases in the meantime. If you are a constituent in this position you can contact RWM directly or I can contact them on your behalf if you email [email protected] with the details.
