Victoria Atkins, Member of Parliament for Louth and Horncastle, has visited a refuge in the constituency for women and children fleeing domestic abuse.
Victoria, who in January announced a major new draft Domestic Abuse bill, made the visit to speak to staff and residents about their experiences and how the refuge provides essential support.
Commenting, Victoria said, “It was a moving experience to speak to some of the residents about what they have been through, and to discuss with them how Domestic Abuse has impacted on their lives. I am absolutely committed to shining a light on domestic abuse to ensure this hidden crime does not remain in the shadows.”
“I was impressed by the quality of the facilities and the dedication of the wonderful staff who work tirelessly to provide support to the residents in rebuilding their lives in a place of safety. Thank you for everything you do, and thank you to everyone who spoke to me, and made the visit a positive one.”
