Today's debate on the use of force in mental health units looked at important measures to make the 1983 Mental Health Act fit for purpose. It recognised the disproportionate rates of detention of black and ethnic minority patients which have persisted for too long.
Victoria is pleased with the cross-party consensus over the provisions in the Bill on better oversight and management in mental health units, and the use of body-worn cameras by police officers there.
The Bill has now been passed at second reading and is returning to the House soon.
