Victoria Atkins, the Conservative candidate for Louth & Horncastle, has welcomed new figures showing that 520 fewer people are claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Louth & Horncastle since 2010, a drop of 36%. This means more people in work, with the security of a regular pay packet and a brighter future ahead of them.
People are getting off benefits and into work across the East Midlands, with 117,000 more people in work compared to the last election.
Throughout Britain the number of people relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance has fallen below 1 million for the first time since 2008.
Victoria said,
"It is excellent news that 520 fewer people are claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance in Louth & Horncastle. This makes a huge difference to people’s lives, meaning many more local people can look forward to a brighter, more secure future, for themselves and their families.
“This has happened because, coupled with the hard work of local businesses, the Government has been reforming welfare so it rewards the willingness to work. This is part of the Conservatives’ long-term economic plan.
"I would like to hear from local businesses and entrepreneurs about how, as their Conservative candidate, I can support them and help them thrive.”
