Victoria Atkins MP was recently elected by Conservative colleagues to the Home Affairs Select Committee (HASC).
The House of Commons appoints the Committee to examine the policy, expenditure and administration of the Home Office and its associated public bodies such as Border Force and Police Constabularies.
The Committee is one of the most powerful in Parliament, dealing with some of the most important issues facing our country, including national security.
Victoria brings 16 years of experience at the criminal bar - during which time she was appointed to the Attorney General’s Panel and the Serious Fraud Office’s List of specialist fraud prosecutors - to the Committee.
She will join 10 other Members of Parliament from the three largest political parties in the House, to undertake this work under the Chairmanship of the Rt. Hon. Keith Vaz MP.
Victoria said:
“I am honoured to have been elected to the Home Affairs Select Committee.
The work of the Home Office touches upon all of our lives, not least national security. I will use my professional experience to scrutinise this significant government department.”
