Many concerned residents have contacted me about Radioactive Waste Management’s interest in Theddlethorpe as a potential site for the UK’s first ever underground nuclear waste dump. With the formation of the Theddlethorpe Working Group and the start of the official process, I want to reiterate my opposition to the possibility of nuclear waste being dumped on our beautiful Lincolnshire coastline.
Nothing I have heard or seen so far has convinced me that this proposal would be beneficial to our area. Many constituents have told me that they feel left in limbo by the length of this process, concerned about the long-term impact on tourism, the natural environment, and about more immediate concerns such as the value of their property and the difficulties they face selling their home. I will be meeting Radioactive Waste Management again to discuss these issues, particularly about what they intend to do in the short term regarding the impact on local property prices.
I have been clear in my concerns about this proposal, and I will continue to keep constituents updated as this process moves forward.
