Victoria has joined the Fairer Funding Campaign Group to fight for parity of education funding across the country.
Currently the ten best-funded areas of England will receive an average grant of £6,297 per pupil this year, compared to an average of just £4,208 per pupil in the ten most poorly-funded areas. In Lincolnshire the figure is £4,372 per pupil.
Victoria is one of 111 Members of Parliament to sign a letter asking the Prime Minister to implement the funding formula proposed by the F40 campaign group, which would ensure fair funding based on pupil need.
Today Victoria gave voice to local concerns about school funding in a debate in Westminster Hall on the same topic. The full debate including Victoria’s contribution may be accessed here:
Victoria said,
“As part of my continued campaign to improve the prospects for young people in Louth & Horncastle, I was pleased to be able to voice my concerns about the present level of funding for schools in our area.
It is imperative that children educated in our area have the same opportunities as elsewhere in the country.
I have visited a large number of local schools and seen the excellent work being done to support our young people in difficult circumstances. It is simply a matter of fairness: Lincolnshire’s children should not receive less than elsewhere.
I look forward to hearing the Prime Minister’s response to our letter and debate, and to seeing a fairer level of funding for pupils in Louth & Horncastle.”
