This is a Budget of broken promises. The Labour Party didn't make many promises before the General Election, but they did say they weren't going to fiddle the fiscal rules and they weren't going to raise taxes on working people.
Today, they have failed on all accounts. They are punishing our pensioners, failing rural Britain with the changes to Inheritance Tax, stifling businesses, and taxing jobs with their increases to employer National Insurance Contributions.
With a Budget that contains £40 billion in tax rises, this is the same old Labour of high taxes, high borrowing, and low growth. It will be taxpayers who pay the price.
