This week, VICTORIA ATKINS, Conservative Candidate for Louth & Horncastle in the forthcoming General Election, joined local teachers to discuss schooling with the Secretary of State for Education, Nicky Morgan.
The Secretary of State was invited to the Priory City of Lincoln Academy by Karl McCartney, MP for Lincoln, to meet teachers from across the county. Local teachers in attendance included Mrs Payne and Mr Forster, the Headteacher and Head of Sixth Form of QEGS Horncastle, as well as Ms Shore, the Headteacher of Banovallum School.
Issues raised with the Secretary of State included the funding of rural schools, the pressure on school places and preparing youngsters for the world of work.
After the event, Victoria said, “I was pleased that local teachers had the opportunity to raise the issues of rural funding and school places directly with the Secretary of State. If elected, I will press for fairer funding of local schools to ensure that Lincolnshire’s children do not miss out.
With 3,000 apprenticeships having been created in the constituency since 2010, I raised with the Secretary of State the need to ensure that young people are prepared for the world of work. Whilst qualifications are important, schools play a vital role in shaping the character of our youngsters. Resilience, reliability, determination and kindness are all qualities needed in the workplace and beyond.
On my visits to schools in the constituency, I have been impressed with the focus on developing students’ characters, as well as their CV’s. I look forward to supporting local teachers in their work of producing fine young adults.”
