Victoria Atkins MP has welcomed the Summer Budget, endorsing the Chancellor’s plan to move to a higher wage, lower tax and lower welfare economy and put security first for families in Louth & Horncastle.
Victoria said:
“I very much welcome the Summer Budget. The Chancellor is determined to ensure that work pays, that we keep more of our hard-earned money, and that the Country lives within its means.
We have reduced the tax burden on businesses which will create jobs and give more people the security of well-paid work. Alongside this we are introducing the new National Living Wage which means two and a half million people will get a direct pay rise.
Freezing fuel duty is another example of how this budget will help local residents as running a car is vital in rural areas. This is in addition to the pledge that VAT, national insurance contributions and income tax will not increase, as well as raising the personal allowance for income tax to £12,500 by 2020. Put together, this means that local people will keep more of their hard-earned money.
I am also pleased that the Budget commits to meeting the NATO pledge to spend 2% of our national income on defence – not just this year, but every year of this decade. Many constituents voiced support for this commitment during the campaign. The Chancellor has listened and acted.
This is a Budget that focussed on economic security for businesses, financial security for families and national security for the country as a whole.”
